My Photo
Name:
Location: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

A 63 yr. old left winger living in a 5 star shoebox in an inner suburb of Melbourne. Living alone, but have a 30 yr old son living in a neighbouring suburb. Retired and loving life. I love intercourse with people of all races, religions and colours. I harbour an intense dislike for Bush, Blair and Howard and their co-horts, as well as right wing shock jocks. I used to be a Government employee (TAFE) and when I left I was left with a small pension and a small nest egg. So lucky me, I don't need to work anymore. I love singing, playing guitar and playing tai chi. I live a life of frugal comfort. No more status anxiety or affluenza for me.

If you can't afford it, fine, don't breed.

Couple of nice cartoons to start the ball rolling!

3AW retains radio top spot

By Daniel Ziffer, Entertainment ReporterMay 9, 2006 - 11:52AM

Radio station 3AW's popularity has jumped in ratings released today. The talk radio station leapt 2.2 points to a 16.7 share of the Melbourne audience, as its key rivals all fell. ABC 774 shed 1.8 points to 11.2, and Gold 104.3 lost 1.6 points.

Hits station Fox jumped a point to sit in second position overall, on 11.3. Rival Nova was steady on 9.0, but its sister station, baby boomer-focused Vega, fell 0.2 points to 1.4. It continues to have the least listeners of all the major broadcasters in Melbourne. Easy listening station Mix fell 0.5 to 5.1 points, and was overtaken by oldies station Magic on 6.0.

3AW and Magic, both owned by Southern Cross Broadcasting, recently switched frequencies. The talk station moved from 1278AM to 693AM, taking advantage of the lower, stronger frequency. The survey, the third of eight for the year, predates the switch. Ratings are used to determine advertising fees.

Making me sick is the plethora of ["Letters to the Age"] letters in a similar vein to this next one. My response is that people who want to breed should be paying for the upbringing of their kids themselves, with their own sweat money. If you can't afford it, fine, don't breed.
Pocket moneyPeter Costello is offering an extra 68 cents a day for raising and caring for three little human beings: guiding them, clothing them, feeding them and educating them. Per day that equals an extra 22.6 cents for little "Paul", an extra 22.6 cents for young "Jenny", an extra 22.6 cents for growing "William" — oh, and a patronising slap in the face to women who still seem to be considered breeding machines in the year 2006.

Overload ................. It is unbelievable, with the Treasurer considering incentives to encourage parents to have a third child in a time of dwindling water resources, a looming oil crisis and population pressures on the environment, that this archaic attitude still exists.

Thank you dear writer
